Benjamin F. Asher, MD, FACS, is board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Asher has worked at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic. He has been in private practice in New York City for the past 15 years where he currently practices. He has served on the faculty of Harvard, Washington University, and Dartmouth medical schools.
Dr. Asher is well known for his interest in integrative and functional medicine which he has been incorporating into his medical practice for over 30 years. In addition to his ENT specialities, Dr. Asher is one of the leading physicians treating Lyme disease as it relates to ear, nose and throat disorders.
Dr. Asher has published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, review articles, and authored numerous book chapters. He has been invited to lecture nationally and internationally on the subject of alternative/integrative medicine and otolaryngology. He contributes regularly to his professional Facebook page on medical subjects that interest him.
Dr. Asher received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, which is now part of Drexel University. He did his general surgery internship at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia and his otolaryngology training at the University of Iowa where he served as chief resident. He then did a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at The Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Asher is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of the American Rhinologic Society and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Dr. Asher has studied cranial osteopathy and medical hypnosis. He is also a meditation teacher.
