I am very passionate about exploring how to increase uptake of HIV-prevention tools—like PrEP—among vulnerable populations, including young, black, gay, and bisexual men, as well as rural black women.
Latesha Elopre, MD, MSPH, is an assistant professor of infectious diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She currently sees patients living with HIV at the 1917 Clinic located in Birmingham and provides care as an internist for adults hospitalized at UAB.
Dr. Elopre's research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, resulting in over 50 citations. Her published work mostly focuses on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Dr. Elopre completed her medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She then underwent an internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During this time, she also received her Master of Science in Public Health in applied epidemiology.
