Highlights

In my practice, I am committed to helping women restore and improve their face and bodies and their self-image. I’ve found the first step to ensuring best results for my patients is educating them on the various options when it comes to reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries.

Experience

Maria M. LoTempio, MD, FACS, was born in Buffalo, New York, and attended Georgetown University. After graduation, she worked as a neonatal intensive care nurse, an experience that taught her firsthand the value of establishing and maintaining a rapport with patients. By taking the time to listen to and fully discuss the concerns of new mothers, Dr. LoTempio found that she was able to ensure their needs were fully met.

Dr. LoTempio continued her education and graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine with her Doctorate in medicine. She moved to Los Angeles, California, to complete her residency training in Head and Neck Surgery at the prestigious David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Over the next six years, she worked exclusively in head and neck procedures, developing an affinity for the artistry and precision of plastic surgery and its potential to help restore and improve a patient's self-esteem. Much of her head and neck surgeries during this period were reconstructive, helping her develop a deep skill set she would draw on in the years to come.

During her residency at UCLA, Dr. LoTempio became fascinated with microsurgery and its potential uses outside of otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat applications). She began a plastic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. There, she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Robert J. Allen, the pioneer of perforator flaps in breast reconstruction. Upon her graduation, Dr. LoTempio began a Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction Fellowship with Dr. Allen. Once completed, she completed additional training in microsurgical lymph node transfer to treat upper and lower extremity lymphedema with Dr. Corrine Becker in Paris, France.

Upon finishing her training, Dr. LoTempio opened the LoTempio Plastic Surgery for Women practice in New York City, a practice reflecting her unique set of skills and experiences. Dr. LoTempio, who is board-certified in plastic surgery and otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, performs a full range of procedures for the body and face in addition to her specialization in microsurgical breast reconstruction with lymph node transplantation. Her practice reflects her long-standing commitment to helping improve the physical appearance of various parts of women's bodies and to helping women feel happier and more confident with their physical appearance.

Education

Dr. LoTempio received a Bachelor of Science and Nursing degree with honors from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. She earned her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine also graduating with honors. Dr. LoTempio completed her residency from the prestigious Otolaryngology Department at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina.
