Priyanka Chugh, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist in practice with Trinity Health of New England at Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, and a former member of the Verywell Health medical expert board. She is a former Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her clinical focuses include complex liver diseases, colon cancer screening, functional gastrointestinal diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. She also performs a wide range of procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, percutaneous gastrostomy and jejunostomy tube placement, dilatation, and stenting of obstructions.
Dr. Chugh takes a patient-centered approach to medicine, following a shared decision-making model for patient care. With her background in primary care, she treats patients comprehensively and values robust and cooperative relationships that improve health outcomes overall.
Dr. Chugh completed an accelerated BS/MD program, receiving both her undergraduate degree and medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She then completed her Internal Medicine training focusing on primary care at the prestigious New York University Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital, where she treated medically challenging and undeserved patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
After completing her residency, Dr. Chugh went on to do a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Westchester Medical Center, an affiliate of New York Medical College, during which time she served as the Chief Gastroenterology Fellow.
