I have had a personal and research interest in metabolic health, specifically with regards to fatty liver and obesity. In my practice, I am dedicated to educating patients about their diseases and providing them with as much information as possible to become knowledgeable about what is happening and making them part of the decision-making process.
Sonal Kumar, MD, MPH, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of Clinical Hepatology. Her clinical and research interests mainly revolve around non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She created and runs the multidisciplinary GI obesity clinic at Weill Cornell Medicine (ICHANGE) and leads the trials in NAFLD at Weill Cornell.
Dr. Kumar graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 2002 and obtained her medical degree in 2006 from Washington University School of Medicine. She subsequently completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital - Washington University School of Medicine and then her Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital - Harvard University. During her fellowship, she also received her Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
